Breastfeeding support is necessary when the following occurs:

  • Discomfort or pain during nursing

  • Damaged nipples

  • Baby doesn't gain weight well

  • Baby is on the breast for very long stretches of time (all the time)

  • Baby isn't latching on properly (tongue tie, weakness, etc.)

Reasons to call a postpartum doula:

  • Labor & delivery were particularly challenging and Mom needs additional help to recover (Cesarean-section, complicated delivery, etc.)

  • Mom needs help with establishing a life routine with the new baby and to learn to take care of the baby(babies): nurse, bathe, carry, etc.

  • Family need help around the house: cooking, cleaning, play with older kids.
